Mutation calculations for a “simple” cell
Revised Simple Cell
Calculations
I had to revise my original calculations based on more
reliable numbers. As with any good science, when new information is obtained,
my observations are corrected as necessary. To see the original calculations,

Assumptions
These calculations ride on four (4) assumptions, which may
be incorrect, but which are not detrimental, and if there are mistakes
revealed, then they should only enhance my case.
Assumption 1:
I assumed that Ian Juby was
correct in The Complete Creation when he said that there were 20 types of
amino acids
Assumption 2:
I assumed that Russ Miller was correct when it was stated
that a simple cell required 600 proteins
Assumption 3:
I assumed that the average protein for this cell required
100 amino acids (the average protein is 200 amino acids long, and the longest
is more than 20,000 long, so 100 is a very reasonable figure for these
calculations)
Assumption 4:
I assumed that, for the sake of statistics and
calculations, this imaginary simple cell was as simple as it could get,
meaning it has 600 proteins of 100 amino acids each
Calculations
If you have read the article I wrote on the large protein
calculations, then you already know the math part of it (at least the basic
principles and properties). The setup was literally the
same – copy and paste the large protein calculations table and then
modify it for the numbers for this problem.

than 975 times. That means that there are more than 975 of you, me, anyone! Of course, the idea there would be 1 universe
absolutely identical to ours is beyond astronomical, but the idea that there
would be more than 975 identical universes (or would it be universi?) is crazy.
If printed out on paper with the margins all reduced to ˝ inch
(margins are normally 1 inch) and the blank parts of the paper cut off, with
the paper taped end to end, then the number would fill a strip of paper 7 ˝ inches
wide and 16 feet long, and that is at 12 pt Times New Roman font (the same
size as this text). This is equivalent to a filling 1440 square inches, or an
area 37.95 inches by 37.95 inches.
And if we want to make 2 cells, we don’t double it, we take the answer and multiply it by itself.
